Phnom Penh: The Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications has confirmed that it now has availability of two types of rapid test kits. They are imported from South Korea and China, and although they have a price difference of $1.70, the Ministry has assured the public that they can be equally trusted.
The Ministry says the rapid test kits made in South Korea are manufactured by SD Biosensor. They are World Health Organisation approved, are easy to use and confirm a result within 15 minutes. They cost $3.70 each.
The Chinese test kits are produced by Healgen at a cost of just $2 apiece. The Ministry says they’re widely used and can also produce results in up to 15 minutes. However, it is not clear on the Healgen website whether the product has WHO approval. It does say negative results do not necessarily rule out Covid infection, particularly for those who have been in contact with the virus. The Chinese test kit has also been designed for use in hospitals and other medical settings. It is not intended for home-use.
